Ghim Wei Ho is currently the Vice Dean of Student Life and a professor of the Department of Electrical & Computer Engineering at the National University of Singapore (NUS).  She leads the Sustainable Smart Solar System research group working on fundamental and applied research on nanosystems with emerging low dimensional nanomaterials, interfacial interactions and hybridized functionalities for energy, environment, electronics and healthcare.

She has co-authored more than 200 papers in the international refereed journals. She was an elected Scholar at Selwyn College, University of Cambridge and is a Cambridge Commonwealth Society Fellow since 2006. She is also a Fellow of Royal Society of Chemistry (FRSC). In 2014, she was awarded the L’OREAL UNESCO for Women in Science Fellowship. In 2015, she was the honoree winner of the JCI’s Ten Outstanding Young Persons (TOYP) Award in the Science and/or Technological Development category. In 2016, she was honoured as the Science & Technology winner for the Great Women of Our Time as well as the ASEAN-US Science Prize for women. During my entire scientific career, I had worked in the field of basic and translational research. Cancer treatment has always been my major interest from small molecular drugs to treat ovarian cancer to macromolecular nano chemistry to treat brain, breast cancers and lymphoma.

During more than 30 years at the Johann Wolfgang Goethe-Universitaet Frankfurt, and Regensburg University in Germany I supervised more than 50 PhD theses & diplomas (MS) and contributed over 230 research publications (180 peer-reviewed). During the last 16 years I have been working in the field of nanomedicine with important contributions in nano drug engineering, synthesis and delivery for cancer imaging and treatment. I developed for the first time a biopolymer nanoplatform based on polymalic acid, which was used extensively for the design and synthesis of targeted drugs for various cancers and delivery across biological barriers including blood-brain barrier (BBB). My expertise in immunochemistry covers production and chemical modification of a wide variety of antibodies and their replacement by peptides. I was the first to propose the importance of replacing antibodies by peptides to use for targeted delivery of synthetic drugs, antisense and peptide drugs. As a NIH grantee, I am well aware of the importance of efficient communication among project members/collaborators and of my role in offering solid research plan, timeline and budget. I continue to design novel nanomedicines, e.g., mini nano drugs, for preclinical stages and eventually for clinic, and open new modalities and routes for nanodrug production and systemic delivery to breast, brain, and lymphoma recipient cells. Nano imaging with targeted delivery of NIR fluorescent and MRI agents was also developed under my supervision, such as nano scale infrared compounds for intraoperative imaging that facilitates radical tumor resection.

Dr. Ram Gupta is an Associate Vice President for Research and Support and a Professor of Chemistry at Pittsburg State University. Gupta has been recently named by Stanford University as being among the top 2% of research scientists worldwide. Before joining Pittsburg State University, he worked as an Assistant Research Professor at Missouri State University, Springfield, MO then as a Senior Research Scientist at North Carolina A&T State University, Greensboro, NC. Dr. Gupta’s research spans a range of subjects critical to current and future societal needs including: semiconducting materials & devices, biopolymers, flame-retardant polymers, green energy production & storage using nanostructured materials & conducting polymers, electrocatalysts, optoelectronics & photovoltaics devices, organic-inorganic heterojunctions for sensors, nanomagnetism, biocompatible nanofibers for tissue regeneration, scaffold & antibacterial applications, and bio-degradable metallic implants. Dr. Gupta has mentored 10 PhD./Postdoc scholars, 76 MS students, and 58 undergraduate/high school students. Dr. Gupta has published over 290 peer-reviewed journal articles (9600+ citations, 57 h-index, 207 i10-index), made over 420 national/international/regional presentations, chaired/organized many sessions at national/international meetings, wrote several book chapters (100+), worked as Editor for many books (50+) for American Chemical Society, CRC, Springer, Elsevier, etc. and received several million dollars for research and educational activities from external agencies.  He is also serving as Editor, Associate Editor, Guest editor, and editorial board member for various journals.
